Senior Staff Accountant
The Senior Staff Accountant works closely with the Controller to ensure the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of accounting functions and processes within the department. Under the supervision of the Controller, the Senior Staff Accountant performs accounting functions, provides support, and ensures adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS). This role also supports the development and implementation of strong internal controls while assisting in streamlining processes.
Key Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
Lead and assist with the balance of monthly and year-end close accounting procedures.
Assist in the ongoing creation and implementation of systems, policies, and procedures for optimal success and efficiency.
Analyze and review financial information and data for audit purposes and financial reporting to ensure accuracy.
Analyze financial records and reports; make accounting adjustments as needed.
Provide assistance to the Controller, Accounting Clerks, Grants Accountant, and administrative staff with day-to-day financial tasks, reports, and related duties as required.
Prepare non-cash journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring financial statements accurately reflect the financial position of the organization.
Provide payroll backup support as needed.
Supervise Accounting Clerks.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Skills and Experience Required:
Bachelors degree in Accounting.
Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience.
23 years of prior supervisory experience.
Experience in nonprofit and/or cost accounting.
Advanced knowledge of QuickBooks, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
