ABOUT THE JOB The Student Affairs Division at CSU San Marcos places a strong emphasis on the care and guidance offered to our community. The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships is seeking dynamic and creative individuals to join our close-knit team. Your impact includes providing advising to prospective, new, and continuing students and their families, offering guidance and access to resources, and keeping a focus on making social mobility possible for our students. In addition to providing warm support to our campus community, you will also be determining financial aid eligibility, awarding financial aid, and you will be coordinating at least one program such as Pell Grant or Direct Loans. The nature of our work often requires collaboration and working as a unit, and other times requires independence and a self-starting attitude. We’re looking for someone who works well in both scenarios.

These positions are hybrid positions and have on campus and remote options.

You can expect to work closely with the Financial Aid and Scholarships leadership team, your fellow Advisors, and the Client Services team as you are introduced to how our department and campus operations work. You will be assigned a mentor to help you onboard to our office, learn your expertise and integrate your passions into your role. We've set realistic goals for how we provide service, “one student, one interaction at a time”, and you will play a vital role in making sure we are a student ready Financial Aid and Scholarships team. We want you to grow your skills and you can count on support from your team as we work together to meet our office and your professional goals.

Analysis and Advising. Using PeopleSoft and CampusLogic, Advisors are responsible for need analysis, verification, reviewing awards, and making revisions from Federal, State, and University funds. We support 1st Generation students that need our help to navigate the process and finish the financial aid process on time.

2. Program Lead and Coordination. Responsible for overseeing one or more of the following programs: Pell Grants, Cal Grants, Loans, SEOG, FWS, State University Grants, Athletic Scholarships, Special Programs, etc. Ensures compliance with Federal, State, NCAA, and Institutional regulations, performs regular reconciliations, supports audit requests, meets regular reporting and processing timelines.

3. Outreach and Student Advising. Represents the office and University, as needed, for college nights, campus visitation groups, etc. Advises applicants, students and parents and works collaboratively across departmental and functional lines.

• Bachelor’s degree required from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business 
administration or a job-related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 2 years professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience 
should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. 
• A Master’s degree in behavioral science or related field may be substituted for year of the professional experience.
• Must possess a valid California driver’s license and automobile insurance; a California State University defensive 
driving course must be passed upon acceptance of the position.
